    10 ways to have fun in recovery

    Recovery from substance abuse is a process laden with challenges that are sometimes life-threatening in severity but it does not have to be all gloomy for you.

    While you need to be serious about the activities lined up in your recovery, you should also find ways to enjoy the process. I have curated a list of 10 ways you can have fun while finding your way out of the dangerous grasp of substance abuse.

    Without further ado, let’s dive right into them:

    Try something new:

    Recovery is like a rebirth for you so there is no better time to pick up new interests. While the recovery itself is challenging, having something to look forward to each day makes the process a fun ride. You can learn how to play the piano for example. See this leading NYC rehab center.

    Make new friends:

    Having friends who are trying to achieve the same goal as you will do you a lot of good during this phase. You will be able to draw strength from one another, learn from one another’s mistakes and learn more about one another’s culture. Writing is a great way to have fun during your recovery regardless of what you desire to achieve with writing.

    Go hiking, camping, or picnicking:

    Improve your social life by going out with people who are anti-drugs. Being in recovery does not mean you should forget your old friends and connections. Find time to sparkle the old flame of friendship through any of these activities.

    Find some alone time for yourself:

    Having fun does not always mean a party, crack jokes with friends or do something loud. Sometimes all you need to do for fun is enjoy the quietude and peace of your sober life. Keeping your own company is a great way to have fun but it must not be too frequent so you don’t get bored.

    Stick with your old interests that will help you maintain sobriety:

    You don’t have to expunge all your old habits from your life. Keep up with the activities that won’t trigger a relapse in your recovery process.

    Bring your creative side to life:

    Now is the time to get more creative. Making something with your own hands is a great way to have fun. There are numerous creative tasks you can do and some of them are birdhouse building, canning, tie and dye, and so on. There are free resources on YouTube to get you started.

    Declutter:

    while this may be a tedious task, the result leaves you fulfilled. Take some time off to declutter the stuff you no longer need in your house. Spring clean the entire apartment and see how happy you will be with the result.

    Without facing the risks of triggers, visit mocktails with friends to enjoy a sober evening over glasses of drinks!

    Join volunteer groups:

    One of the socially rewarding things you can do while in recovery is to join groups that are looking to impact your local community. You will be happy seeing how your effort, no matter how small it seems to you, is making other people happy.
