Periods can be messy, and disturbing, but not having them can be even messier. You might get to avoid all the hassle of changing a pad or tampon if you don’t get periods, but you also don’t get to enjoy the best of health unless your periods have stopped through natural menopause. You might find it hard to believe, but getting your periods is a blessing in disguise. Regular periods are an indicator of a healthy reproductive system and overall health.

One common period-related disease is amenorrhea. Amenorrhea is of two types i.e. Primary amenorrhea and Secondary amenorrhea. Primary amenorrhea is a condition where a female does not get her first period till the age of 15. Secondary amenorrhea is a condition where previously menstruating women don’t get their periods for more than 3 months. Secondary amenorrhea is mostly hypothalamic amenorrhea, which is the stopping of periods because your body is not producing enough female hormones like estrogen and progesterone.

A part of your brain called the hypothalamus controls the production of estrogen and progesterone by sending hormones like Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing hormone (LH). Hypothalamus being the hormonal control center usually sends these hormones to the female reproductive organs which then produce hormones like estrogen and progesterone that are responsible for a healthy menstrual cycle. In Hypothalamic Amenorrhea the hypothalamus turns off and stops sending FSH and LH to the female reproductive organs. The most common causes of this are.

    • Being underweight,
    • Excessive exercise,
    • High anxiety and stress, and/or
    • Disordered/restrictive eating

While amenorrhea can be really disturbing, there are various ways to treat and recover from it. The best way is to consult with the best obstetrician to find the possible solution.

     Simple Amenorrhea Recovery Tips

    1. Increase Your Caloric Intake

Amenorrhea is very much dependent on your diet. As malnourishment is a major factor causing amenorrhea simply increasing your caloric intake can help a lot. Feed yourself all the healthy food you want. Try not to skip any meals. Load your plate with healthy calories, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. In the recovery of amenorrhea, you need not restrict any nutrient in your diet. You are allowed, in fact, encouraged to eat anything and everything. Make sure that your body has enough energy and nutrients to support the production of hormones and normal periods.

    2. Avoid Heavy Exercising

Exercising can never be discouraged, but heavy exercise is discouraged in a lot of cases. If you want to recover from amenorrhea, you will need to drop off the dumbbells and tire. It is better to stick to simple and light exercises like yoga, walking, and swimming.

Keep in mind that extensive high-intensity exercise is a form of stress and stress can single-handedly wreak havoc in your hormonal system.

    3. Do Not Stress

High-stress levels are no good for your periods. As mentioned before your hypothalamus is responsible for causing amenorrhea. Your hypothalamus is connected to your nervous system and endocrine system. When you stress a lot, your brain will send a signal to your body, to stop preparing it for a baby, hence the stopping of periods. When you are under stress, your body sends signals to your brain which reach the hypothalamus, the hypothalamus inhibits the production of some hormones which in turn inhibits the production of hormones essential for menstruation by the female reproductive organs.

    4. Keep Your Bones Healthy

Poor bone health does not cause eumenorrhea, but amenorrhea can lead to poor bone health. Therefore, it is important to start caring for your bones as soon as you get diagnosed with the disease.

Amenorrhea is associated with poor bone health that can lead to osteoporosis and osteopenia in women. Estrogen plays an important role in bone health and determines the life of our healthy bones. A deficiency in estrogen can mean that you will lose bones more quickly. The best way to do this is to restore the estrogen production, which can be done by restoring your periods. Periods can be restored by eating a good diet, managing physical activity, and controlling stress. All these can also assure good bone health. So the treatment for your amenorrhea can also be the treatment for your deteriorating bone health.

    5. Build A Support Network

Building a support network can help you in dealing with this disease. Connecting with people facing the same issues will give you the courage to overcome them together. Connecting with other people will let you learn some tips that have worked for them and might work for you too. Also, this will help you in keeping stress at bay.

Moreover, you don’t have to build a support group with people having the same disease, you can build a group with the people you feel comfortable with. Taking to your friends or family, letting them know how you feel, and allowing them to help you come out of the poor mental state you may be in can help a lot. Because as established before the way you think and feel can have a strong impact on your menstruation.

    6. Consult A Gynecologist

No amount of advice or tips can replace this one advice. Consult a gynecologist to find an eternal solution to your period problems. You not getting your periods can be an indicator of a serious underlying problem, so it’s better to consult the best Gynecologists in Lahore through Marham.pk.
