Luanda, Angola’s capital, is divided into two sections, Baixa de Luanda and Cidade Alta, on the Atlantic Ocean’s coast. It is the country’s administrative, cultural, and urban centre, as well as the world’s third most populous Portuguese-speaking city. It is a rapidly growing city, with major reconstruction and development projects springing up all over the place, attracting a large number of Portuguese immigrants in recent years.

Luanda’s thriving business industry has made the city quite expensive to visit, but this should not deter you. Its new infrastructure makes it a very comfortable city for tourists to visit, and when combined with its warm climate, it makes for a very appealing destination. There are also numerous activities available both within and outside of the city.

Plan a trip to this amazing city with Tap Airlines ticket Booking and enjoy your days here!

    1 Saint Michael Fortress

Paulo Dias de Novais, Angola’s first Captain-Governor, built this Portuguese fortress in 1576. It was once the country’s administrative centre and, unfortunately, became a holding facility for slaves being transported to Brazil. The ornate wall tiles that tell the story of Angola’s history are one of the fortress’s most beautiful features. It also houses a number of other ancient relics. The Saint Michael Fortress was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. It has since transformed into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the town.

2 The National Museum of Slavery

In 1977, the National Museum of Slavery (Museu Nacional da Escravatura) was established. It’s a small white structure along the city’s waterfront. The history of slavery in Luanda is not pleasant, but those interested in learning more should visit this museum. It has photos and lithographs on the walls that tell the story. Angola was one of the most important slave traders on Africa’s west coast. The museum is located on the site where slaves were baptised before being loaded onto ships bound for the United States.

3 Take a stroll along the harbour

Avenida 4 de Fevereiro, also known as Marginal, runs parallel to Luanda Bay and is a pleasant place to stroll. It not only has beautiful views of the sea and the boats coming in and out of the port, but it is also lined with beautiful buildings, such as the Banco de Angola. The port, famous for its clock tower, is located at one end of the avenue, while the old fort is located at the other. It is the city’s most prestigious street, and it is home to many of the city’s luxury hotels. Avenida 4 de Fevereiro is named after the Angolan independence struggle, which also marked the start of the Portuguese Colonial War.

    4 Visit church

The Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Saviour (Sé Catedral de Luanda) is a lovely 1628 church. It is the official residence of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Luanda. The church was an important part of the country’s religious history, but it was completely destroyed in 1877. It was rebuilt between 1880 and 1900, as you can see today. At the entrance, the church has three curved doors flanked by one larger curved façade. In 1949, the cathedral was designated as a building of public interest.

    5 Quiçama National Park

Quiçama National Park is the only active national park in the country. It is approximately 70 kilometres from the city and is a popular safari day trip. The 12,000-square-kilometer park was established as a game reserve in 1938 before becoming a national park in 1957. It is now at the forefront of Angola wildlife. The park’s animal population is the result of a Noah’s Ark-style operation in which animals were transported here from Botswana and South Africa. Previously, the animal population had been severely depleted due to poaching in previous years. Tap Basic Economy Class

    6 Go surfing

Cabo Ledo, a world-famous surfing beach, is only a few hours south of Luanda. At 500 metres, the beach has one of the world’s longest point breaks. Cabo Ledo has a long, slow left that is ideal for beginning surfers. It is a consistent surfing spot and a world-class surfing destination. The beach also has some charming bungalows, making it an ideal place to spend the night. Despite the fact that it is easily accessible in a day from the capital city.
