5 Things You Can Do with WIFI You Didn’t Know

November 29, 2021 by admin Leave a Comment

Why is My Netgear Orbi Router Not Connecting to Satellite?

In most homes, having Wi-Fi has become standard, and sharing your Wi-Fi password with guests is another frequent occurrence. Despite most people being familiar with the technology, there are some things people did not know they can do with Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi can improve your quality of life in many ways. You can use it to stream movies through the rarbg proxy and get other content. So, it may cause you a hard time living without it as it increases security, helps save time and gives you control over who is using the internet connection. Below are things you can use your Wi-Fi for you did not know.

Increase your security

Unless a password protects the network, your router provides internet access to any device, including devices located outside the home. Since neighbors and hackers too can access your network, protect your Wi-Fi by setting a password. The router should have encryption set up. If not, make some adjustments to the setting. Also, set a strong password for your network. It can be ten characters long but easy to remember. Also, use strong passwords on various online sites as you seek content online.

2. Set up a guest account

One thing you can do is set up a guest account through your router. It has several perks, as guests can access the internet without having to type in the password. Having a guest account on your Wi-Fi with no password is open to anyone within the range of the network, meaning close enough next-door neighbors or people standing outside your home can access it. Unfortunately, this form of connection can cause security concerns as anyone can use the Wi-Fi as they please. For instance, someone can download movies or music illegally and also hack into other networks. Therefore, it is best to set a password for the guest account, and you can change it whenever you want.

3. Control sites devices can access

Sometimes it is a matter of security that some devices do not access every site on the internet. Therefore, choose selective devices such as a child’s tablet and restrict access to specific online sites temporarily or permanently. Also, you can limit particular websites for devices guests use. Fortunately, you can choose how available the internet is and limit access to the internet as a whole during specific times of the day. The user manual has more information on how you can alter the settings on your router. Popular sites to block online reference to illegal activity, drugs, or adult content.

4. Extend your range

Every router has a specific range available based on the surrounding obstacles and the capable range based on the hardware. Some routers, if there is nothing in the way, can extend up to sixty feet. But often, doors, walls, and other building materials shorten the range. But, you can buy devices to extend your range of accessing the wireless network, such as repeaters, Wi-Fi extenders, signal boosters. Also, you can add a second router, one that is compatible with connecting with other routers in a setup known as to mesh network. The network extension applies better to those living in large homes, and you can also opt to have a separate Wi-Fi. It may seem unnecessary to have two networks, but you can consider it due to unique circumstances. Such as one for the home office, rental space and another for outbuildings like a guest house.

5. Create internet curfews

When you do not want some devices on the network, it is necessary to block some of these devices at certain times, especially child’s devices. By adjusting the settings on the router, you can block specific devices like laptops your children use at a certain time of the day. You can also use this feature to limit the time devices access the network, but you want other devices to access the connection. Use this technology to limit gaming, TV streaming, and other activities. Look at the user manual for your router to adjust these settings. In this way, you can identify a specific device to block and times to block them during the day.
