When these three things cross the limit, then it calls overthinking.
Thinking is a powerful act of humans. The world cannot be at this stage of progress without this vital act. But there is one thing , thinking, which is beneficial for yourself and society, and the other thing is overthinking, which harms you and your social circle.
It is not a bad thing to be thinking logically, critically, or analytically. Still, when these things go on a slippery slope of the mental stage’s negative side (Which can cause overthinking), it became dangerous.
So how could you know that you are overthinking? And what are the main reasons for overthinking?
First of all, you have to examine the difference between healthy thinking and unhealthy thinking (overthinking). These are normal human behaviors and can be healthy or unhealthy. The expert phycologists say that it is normal to examine and process information before making any decisions. It is a beneficial habit to choose something or reject something helpful or harmful. But when you think so much or process any information that leads to unproductive or worse results, you must be alarmed because you reach the point called overthinking.

These days, when we live in a pandemic, we have to adopt social distance, and this social distance is leading us to stress and anxiety in our behaviour. It is normal, and you can easily understand that you could be a victim of overthinking more than usual. Anxiety and stress are the typical response to a fear of what might happen next due to the coronavirus pandemic. When you think too much and do not act or do things, you might be at the stage of overthinking. It will prevent you from taking the right actions at the right time that waste your energy and affect your ability to make decisions; when you cannot make any decision, then you will rethink over and over again. And so overthinking leads you to a very unsuccessful, disappointing life.

Shock or trauma is another significant cause of overthinking. Anybody can fall into this bad habit of overthinking. Still, if you have gone throw any trauma like childhood abuse, neglected by a social circle, especially by your parents, or if you lost someone very close to your heart, then you can be especially vulnerable to overthinking. Doctors who had a deeper study of the brain tell us that traumas can badly affect the brain’s development. Due to this slow development, your brain can stick consistent state of hypertension. It means that your brain will constantly scan the threads, even when there is no real danger. In this situation, you may experience deep thoughts, which takes you into the state of overthinking.
Low self-esteem is another possible cause that can lead you to overthink. If you have low self-esteem, you constantly think that people will like you or not or whether your partner will leave you?
If you still could not get the cause of overthinking, I will ease you a little more. If you constantly have negative thoughts in your mind, if you were always negatively judging yourself, criticize yourself, and always fear the future. As a result of all these emotions, you notice yourself stressed out, exhausted, or depressed. You could not decide rightfully or at the right time than you who have this terrible overthinking habit. If you still could not find whether you are overthinking, you have to find a trusted mental health professional to find the root causes of this wrong behavior.

- If you cannot stop worrying
- If you are about such things, on which you have no control over
- If you constantly remind yourself about your mistakes.
- If you continuously think about an embarrassing moment in your mind.
- Sleeping difficulties.
- Taking too much stress and anxiety.
How to stop overthinking?
Stop overthinking is not too difficult or too easy for you. But you can try these things to get rid of overthinking.
Stay in the present.
The first and most important thing to get rid of this bad habit is staying in the present. To stay in the present, you can have some exercises, morning walks, running, etc. you could participate in sports that will enhance your senses and be more focused.

Awareness of triggering point for your overthinking process
You should know that which thing triggers your overthinking process. For example, if you continuously listen to the news or refresh your news pages, you will consume unnecessary information. Suppose you want yourself to be up to date about the recent coronavirus pandemic and continuously watching the news. In that case, it is more certain that you will trigger the overthinking switch by yourself. The solution to this is that you must have to determine when you will get the pandemic information; it could be a brief time in the morning and the same time in the evening. By doing this, you will be pretty informed about the situation around you and will be able to focus on other things that matter much more in your life.
Focus on other things than problems can help
If you think of solving a problem at an endless time, you will end up overthinking. One trick to get rid of overthinking by thinking about other things and distracting yourself from the issue. Your brain finds a better solution when you do other things like working in the garden or do whatever you like; it could be reading, sleeping, and any other thing except the problem. A short out focusing can relax your brain a little bit, and in this break, your brain can develop an absolute solution to the problem.
Consult a Mental Health Professional
If you cannot escape from overthinking by doing all the above possible solutions, it might be time to consult professional help. Overthinking can be an indication of poor mental health, like depression and anxiety. If you cannot consult a health professional, then you might be developed more severe health issues.
