If you enjoy traveling with your family, you will certainly want to preserve your travel memories as much as possible so you can look back and remember the good times. Read on to discover a few tips that will keep your memories fresh and lively.
Photographs
You will certainly take plenty of pictures during your travels, but sometimes you might wonder if you are spending more time taking photos than enjoying the sights. Consider limiting your travel pictures to a few special shots, mostly with family and friends like this one from Michael Canzian, and purchase a set or two of postcards so you can focus on fully experiencing your travels.
Souvenirs
Souvenirs can be a great way of remembering your travels, but they can lead to clutter if you aren’t careful. Choose one special item per trip, and consider starting a collection of items like magnets or coins or whatever suits your tastes.
Travel Journals
If you’re looking for a more creative way to preserve your memories, try a travel journal. If you are traveling with your family, encourage each member to keep his or her own journal. Jot down what you saw and did each day of your trip as well as your reactions to your adventures. Alternately, use and provide some writing prompts like “the most enjoyable activity on the agenda today” or “something funny” or “the strangest sight.” Share your journal with fellow travelers, and ask them to share their journals as well. You will gain an entirely new perspective about your trip.
Recordings
If you and your family members are not up to writing, consider making video or audio recordings of your reactions to your travels. Using prompts like those for journals, record your impressions, and encourage your traveling companions to do the same. Later on you can listen to these and relive all the fun you had.
Memory Sessions
When you return home from your travels, schedule a series of memory sessions. Together with your family members (and anyone else who wants to join in), look at your pictures and postcards, compare souvenirs, read from your travel journals and listen to your recordings. You can also discuss new impressions of your trip that have struck you since you’ve been home. You can even use part of your session to plan a new travel adventure.
Traveling with loved ones can be a fun and enriching experience, and you will make memories that you will want to preserve forever, so be sure to do so creatively.
